ibs after travel

Two years ago I travelled to Jamaica and have had IBS since. I am 30 and have always been regular. My husband and I both contracted a parasite after swimming in waterfalls in the mountains. Upon our return to the US our physician put us on CIPRO. It worked immediately. But then I had diarrhea atleast 1-2X a week. I have had stool tests, blood tests and a colonoscopy and they can't find anything. I have cramping, urgency, soft/loose stools and fatigue. It really has affected my lifestyle and happiness. It has made travel difficult/impossible and I don't even like going out unless there are facilities in close proximity. I have tried the IBS diet with minimal success. It is difficult to live on oatmeal and starchy veggies. Stress has played a major role in my wellbeing also.

try a lactose challenge. cut all dairy and lactose containing food out of your diet and see if your symptoms improve.

Beanygurl gave you some great suggestions, so try them and let us know if they help at all. I buy my acidophilus at WalMart, but you can get it anywhere that sells vitamins and supplements. You don't need a high-priced brand to see if it will help. The brand I take (store brand) works well for me; I take 1 pill, 3 times a day.
