Here's some info that might be helpful. Has your doc diagnosed you with this? Are you asking on behalf of someone else?

His doctor told him 4 years ago his gallbladder was functioning at 28%. He was told he should have it removed. My husband didn't like the surgeon so he didn't have it done. Here's the symptoms.....he eats he feels like he has eaten Thanksgiving dinner. That can happen eating a sandwich or a larger meal. No pain. He stomach bloats. If he doesn't eat for 24 hours it goes down. This is something that is visible to me. The doctor told him the other day that the gallbladder needs to come out. The more I questioned the dr. I got from him that we are doing this as a process of elimination and that he could possibly have a hiatal hernia or both that and the gallbladder. So I was wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms and what was going on with them. Any info would be appreciated.

Beanygurl gave you the link to some good info about hiatal hernia...was it helpful?

Can your husband seek the opinion of another surgeon? Avoiding the surgery may not be wise, but I do understand not 'clicking' with a doctor and have always gone with my instincts.

I went to that part about hiatal hernias...it said most have no symptoms. I feel like we are just going in circles.

Well, if your husband isn't having symptoms that point towards a hiatal hernia, isn't it very possible that it is his gallbladder? Has anyone suggested having a HIDA scan done?

Have you read any information about gallstones?

I can remember that I was in extreme pain before having my gallbladder removed, and mine was done 28 years ago, when I was only 26 years old. I didn't fit any of the parameters, but my gallbladder didn't know that! I cannot imagine how your husband has dealt with this for

It might be better to see another doctor and insist on more testing before surgery rather than try and diagnose it yourself. One thing I know about doctors, they don't like people going online and then telling THEM what the problem is.

HI guys,

My dh had a hida scan done in 2003. It said the gallbladder was functioning at 28%. The dr said they usually take them out at 34%. But because my dh's was only off by 6% that we could leave it unless it got worse. We don't know if it's worse. It has stayed the same. He sent my dh to a surgeon last week and is scheduled for surgery in a week and a half. My dh says he doesn't feel like it's his gallbladder. His only symptom is the fullness.

Looks like the only option at this point is to get a second opinion.

He went to a person that does herbs and was told that his gallbladder was no longer sluggish. We also went to a chiropractor that has said the same. We never told him there was a gallbladder problem. Then last night a friend of dh's in the medical field called and said that a gi dr has said that it doesn't sound like gallbladder. We need to find out if there is actually undigested food sitting there or if it's gases. Dr.s seem to get a little aggravated when you want to call and ask for a referral to a gi specialist and not just go to the surgeon and have the gb removed.

a "person who does herbs" and a chiropractor are not medical doctors, and it's unfair to expect any medical doctor to come up with an accurate third party diagnosis via the phone.
