Hi, I am new here and have some questions for anyone who has had or has considered having a Nissen fundoplication. I am 29-years-old, have had 2 children, and have been suffering from GERD for almost 2 years. I had a scope done last year, which revealed that I have a "gaping" lower esophageal sphincter. I have had very adverse reactions to all PPIs (I have tried them all) and can only take acid reducers (ie, ranitidine) for about a week before I experience adverse effects from it as well. I can go weeks at a time w/out any trouble, or weeks at a time where I am completely miserable. I have drastically altered my diet. No pizza, or tomato sauces at all, no spicey foods, no caffeine, no carbonated beverages. Most of the time I don't even do decaffe tea. This has really affected by quality of life. As well, my husband and I would love to be able to have another baby and I can't even image suffering through the reflux while pregnant. I had my surgery consult 2 weeks ago and am scheduled for the esophageal manometry testing (which scares the crap out of me!). I just don't want to jump into something I may regret. Even from the start I was terrified of having a fundo because all I have ever read about is horror stories (not being able to swallow/vomit). I would so greatly appreciate any information anyone has on experience with a fundo.
Thanks so much in advance!
