Announcing the arrival of Julianna Mae! Born Sept 12th at 12:14pm, at home in the water!
Tuesday afternoon I was having lots of braxton hicks and thought labor might be coming, so DD and I went shopping and picked up the last of our home birth supplies and then I cleaned the house up when I got home. I was having lots of braxton hicks. Around 9pm I started to feel some more "real" contractions but still wasnt sure it was labor because it was so different from DD's labor. Around 10pm I decided to take some Ambien which bought me a few hours of sleep. I woke up at 1am and was able to lay there and doze between my contractions until 5am. Then things started to pick up and I moved into the bathroom where I sat on the toilet for a long time. I checked my cervix (well tried) sometime in there and thought I was about 4-5cm with my bag of water bulging. Around 6ish we called the midwife and my doula to come since my contractions were about 3 min apart. My doula arrived around 7:45 and immediately got me drinking juice with emergen-c in it which I am eternally grateful for. My midwife and her crew arrived shortly after and suggested checking my cervix.
To my complete surprise I was dilated to a 9! She said to let her know when things felt different or I felt like pushing. Everyone got to work filling the tub because I was desperate to get in it.
Things were really hard after this. 2 hours went by and I never felt an urge to push. My midwife suggested we check my cervix again so we did and I just had a small lip left, which she had me push past.
I never once had an urge to push which was so weird to me. I pushed basically because I wanted to get her out and because at least it made the contractions feel better LOL
I pushed for 2 hours and ended up delivering in the tub while leaning against DH. My midwife said my tailbone was at a funny angle so she had her fingers in there to help me push past it which hurt horribly. I finally was able to push past that and the baby crowned which was a good and a horrible feeling LOL. She had her hand up by her cheek which made things a little harder also. Finally though she was out which was the greatest relief ever!
I had small tear and my tailbone is really sore but this is so much better than a c-section. I feel great today! I got to nurse my baby right away and be present for her exam and getting weighed and all of that.
She weighed 7lbs 10oz, was 21 1/2 in long, and had a 14 in head. DD weighed 7lbs 10oz also and they told me she was too big to come out. Guess I proved them wrong LOL.
I attached some pics, some are right after delivery, and some are later.
Sorry so long, thanks for reading if you got that far!
