My first RE Appointment
4
Tue, 09-04-2007 - 1:05pm

I just came back from my first appointment with the RE doctor. He said that I have three options:

- Laparoscopy;
- IUI;
- IVF.

He thought that I should try the IUI first. He will only attempt three IUIs with a month in between each of them. My insurance would cover a portion of the IUI, but I do not believe they will cover any of the medications. He is prescribing Bravelle shots for me to take on days 3, 4,5, 6 and 7. On day eight he would want me to come in for a blood test and a ultrasound. Then he would give me ovidnal (sp) to get me to ovulate within 36 hours so he could preform the IUI. He gave me the name of a place where I could get the medications filled. The name is Metro Drugs. Does anyone have any ideal what the cost would be or if they have any knowledge about any of this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Tanya

I don't know the cost of Bravelle but Follistim which I believe is similar is $1500 which includes the ovidrel. Gonal-F which is also similar was about $2500, with the ovidrel. It depends onyour dosage too. I had to purchase 900mg and 600 mg pens.

I called the pharmacy and everything would be about $1100.00. I need 20 viles of Bravelle and one of ovidrel. My insurance would not cover these medications but it apparently covers some of the actual artificial insemination procedure. Did you have any luck with your drugs?

Thanks,
