Hello,
My name is Amanda and I am in search of some other options. I have PCOS and do not ovulate on my own. I have conceived before using clomid. We decided to try to have another baby and have done 2 rounds of clomid without producing any eggs. They have now put me on Metformin and will be doing another round of 100mg of clomid. The metformin has my stomach upset and I still have 2 weeks of increasing the dosage from 500mg to 1500mg. I feel that it will not work and I am going through all this for nothing. I do have an appt. with an RE for a consult and wanted to find out personally from other women who may have gone through this and to see if anyone has every had to do injectables and how that works and side effects and so on. I look forward to any info anyone may have. Thank you for your help.
Amanda

Hi Amanda,
I have gone through about 8 total rounds of clomid and moved on to a cycle of Follistim (injectibles). The biggest difference was having to be monitored with u/s and b/w every few days - so, more trips to the RE. Also, be cautious of how many follies develop. Ask your doctor how many is too many... if there are too many, will he/she cancel the cycle? Ask about the HcG trigger - if you are borderline of having too many follies, will they give you the full trigger or just half? Will they do a booster? Supplement with progesterone?
When I did the follistim cycle, I hyperstimmed and had wayyyyyyyy too many follicles therefore I was extremely bloated and in a lot of pain. It turns out that my RE *never* should have let me go through with that cycle. Now I know better.
Be sure to ask lots of questions and ask about every possible treatment and what your best choice would be. If you are second guessing your current tx, then I think you seeing the RE is a great idea. Best of luck!

Praying for our Miracle
Hi Amanda, my name is also Amanda. I also have PCOS. Years ago my GYN put me on Clomid for several cycles to no avail. After struggling without success with my GYN we moved on to our RE. We were then dx'd with PCOS and given a different protocol. At this time (1999 or so) Metformin was not widely used for treating PCOS yet. We cycled without it using injectable FSH and dexamethasone for increased DHEAS. I was not responding properly , IVF was suggested and due to finances at the time was not an option for us. We took a break for a few years then I heard of using Metformin to treat PCOS. Went back to the RE, put me on Metformin and dexa again and I repsonded sooooo much better. We actually made it to three IUI's. Unfortunately they were unsuccessful but the Metformin helped tremendously. After another few year break we are back again and doing IVF. I am on Metformin again, 2000mg daily. Thankfully I have not had the GI sx's that I have heard so many women experience.
We have not started injectables yet this cycle, I am due to start Lupron on Tuesday but if memory serves me the most annoying s/e for me was hot flashes from the Follistim.
I am sure that there are many treatment options out there for you and that you will find the right one. I hope this info helps and that
