hi all, I am new here.  I really never expected to find myself posting on an infertility message board, but who does?  I have a beatiful seven yaer old daughter from my first marriage.  My new husband and I (we just got married in June!) would love to have more children.  Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer about 2 years ago, and though he's fine now thank God, but low sperm counts are really common with that.  So, after a long time of not using birth control, which led to charting, and then buying one of those fertility monitors and still nothing, he finally went to see his urologist for a semen analysis.  And of course it was low.  So, then he was referred to a male infertility specialist who did another one (still low but a little higher than before) and said that we should probably have IUI and I should see my GYN.  My GYN referred me to a fertility clinic and then mentioned that I better hurry because I'm 32 and "fertility sharply declines after 35."  Thanks.  So...we have an appointment for that next month.

So for those of you who have been through this, what should I expect at this first app't?  Will I have to have any testing done?  Does IUI usually work?  The whole idea of it all is just stressing me out.  Thanks for even reading this far.

Hi,
I'm new here as well. I conceived my first daughter with IUI. But the problems were mine, not his, as in your case. At any rate: a fertility specialist might want to do a few more tests on you just to make sure they are addressing everyone's health issues. The IUI itself is no big deal. In our case, the guy visits the doc about 90 minutes before you do, they wash his sperm to get only the best swimmers in the mix, then they deposit it high up in your uterus, using a thin catheter. Then you lie there for 5-15 minutes, and then you go about your business for 2 weeks. Then you get a pregnancy test.

I'm happy to go into all the gory details - I would have loved if I knew everything I know now in advance.

Good luck to you!

Hello all, i am new here as well. i have read a lot of u have conceived before, i have yet to at all. We've been tryiing for two years and we have been doing treatment for 1...the issue is me, not my hubby. i had a ruptured appendix in my teens, all the scar tissue built up and was blocking my tubes. i had surgery last january, where they found a cyst on my ovaries. They ended up detatching my left tube.
