I have been ttc for a little over two years now with no luck. we have been referred to a fertility specialist who has performed all the preliminary tests such as HSG, ultrasound, blood work ans SA and everything came out normal. So I get to be called unexplained. I am going to try IUI next month but My concern is that I am underweight. I am 5'4 and weigh 100 pounds but my periods have always been very regular. does anyone know ig being underweight could be the problem even though my periods are regular. Please advise.

Thanks a lot and good luck all of you trying to conceive.

Hello! My name is Kim and like you, my RE has found nothing to explain why we are not pregnant. I have had all of the same tests & procedures you went through. And my DH's swimmers are fine, too. So yes, we fall into that category of THEY DON'T KNOW. Sooooo not fun. We have been ttc for 10 months. I feel like we gave a really good effort this past weekend, I had a sonogram on Friday, then a shot of HCG and sex x3. Boy, that was interesting! I am 34, my DH 42 so to find the energy for that many nights in a row wasn't easy! I can't help you with the underweight part, I've actually gained around 15 pounds since I went off the pill in January. I think it's the stress of all this. Which isn't good for my libido, I feel fat and gross, not the way I should feel when I have to turn up the heat for babymaking.

Anyway, there are lots of supportive women out there and we can all relate to the feelings you are experiencing. Five months is not all that long, so hang in there! I think like us, it's a timing thing. So just relax (don't you hate it when people tell you that) and try and focus on things in your life that give you pleasure. I've been going for runs and drinking wine. The wine part probably isn't the greatest but what can you do.

Take care, & welcome to the boards.
Kim

Oops, I just reread your message and saw that you have been ttc for 2 years, not 5 months. I think I read another post with that in it, sorry for confusing you. Yes, two years is a significant amount of time!

Hi kim,

Thanks for your reply. I know, it's really frustrating when the doctors tell you they can't find anything wrong with us. I am 25 and my DH is 30 and one of the doctors we saw said his morphology was on the lower side. 21% but our infertility specialist thinks this falls within the normal range. we are going to a fertility clinic and planning to have an IUI done next month. I just wanted to try on

Hi there,

That really is great news that all your tests came back normal. I know it must be frustrating to be classified as "unexplained" but at least you don't have any major known obstacles blocking your way! I don't think being a little underweight is a problem since your cycles are so regular. Of course I'm not a doctor, though! It sounds like your hubby's morphology may be a little bit low depending on which measurement scale they used--there are 2 for morphology, the WHO (World Health Organization) and the Kruger (sp?). According to the WHO, anything above 30% normal forms is considered normal, but according to the Kruger, anything above 15% normal forms is considered normal. At least I think those are the %s. My hubby has 4% normal according to the Kruger scale...he's so low that I never have to remember the upper limits! :P

Kim, I also wanted to let you know that I think any amount of time ttc is significant! Whether it's 5 months, 10 months, 1 year and 4 months, or 2 years...it's frustrating no matter how long it is, and it feels like an eternity! Of course this doesn't seem to be getting any easier as the months go by...but one thing I've learned is, you never know how much you can take until you are faced with it.

I wish you both all the best with whatever you are trying now! :)

Hi, Sue.

I have only been on Clomid for one cycle and besides making me CRAZY (hormonally) it also gave me horrible hot flashes. Oh, I had the sonogram on Day 12 of my cycle to check my follicles. They measure their size and tell me if they're "good." Once that was determined, they gave me an HCG shot to force ovulation, then we had to have lots of sex. How can you tell if you had mature follicles without a sonogram? Is there some kind of bloodwork that determines that? If we're not prego this cycle, then next one we'll do Clomid & an IUI. Then, that's it, no more Dr. stuff. It's so stressful and draninng that I just can't keep it up. We'll just try naturally for a while, or at least take a few months "off."

Good luck with everything!!!

Thanks for your reply Reba. I think they tested my Hubby's Morphology with the WHO method so I think 21 % is on the lower side. i am hoping that IUI will help us since they wash the sperm to get the best ones. and I have also read somewhere that when there is too many abnormally shaped sperm, they get in the way of the good sperm and don't let them swim up. So

Hi Sue,

My name's Sue too :) and I've been ttc #1 for 2 years. My husband (34) and I (29) are unexplained too. I've done 3 cycles of Clomid and am on my 3rd iui with injectables. Since you're moving to iui next month, I thought you might want to check out the ivillage iui board: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppiui I have found the women there to be really helpful.

I also wanted to say hang in there. I know how hard it is to manage the disappointments, stress, hormones, and all the waiting. But this is a game you can't loose at as long as you don't give up. You will be a mommy someday, one way or another. Fingers crossed that it happens for you sooner than later! Good luck next month with iui #1!

Sue

I have also been dealing with UNEXPLAINED primary infertility for almost two years, my husband and I both had great test results and my ob/gyn and RE could not find any reason why we were not conceiving.
