Hi, I would be so grateful for any advice/opinions/suggestions.
I have an almost 4 year old daughter, and my husband and I have been TTC #2 for almost 3 years without success.
I finally went to the doctor about a year ago to get checked out. My insurance doesn't cover fertility treatment specifically, but I can be covered to fix physical problems, if that makes sense. So it wouldn't cover IVF, for instance.
My husband's sperm test showed that he has a good sperm count and good motility. My tests showed that I had chlamydia. Unless my husband had been unfaithful and passed it to me (I don't believe that is the case), then I must have had it for at least 5 years, as that is the last time I had any other partner. My husband and I were both treated for chlamydia, although his test for it came back negative. I had 3 tests for it before treatment, two were negative and one positive. I don't know if it is generally an unreliable test but I presume that false negatives would be more likely than false positives.
My only symptoms were painful ovulation, and heavier/more painful periods than before I had my daughter.
I had the procedure where dye is injected down the fallopian tubes. One tube, it went straight through, the other, it went through but only when they really forced it. I have no idea how to find out or even if I can, whether my chlamydia progressed to PID.
My doctor told us to continue trying, to use ovulation tests to make sure we are having sex at the right time etc., and we have been doing that for 4 months since the procedure - still no luck.
He hasn't suggested any other treatment, as I am ovulating so he says Clomid would be pointless and possibly harmful. He mentioned possibly doing a laporoscopy to check for endometriosis, but seemed reluctant as I do not have chronic constant pain, just on ovulation.
I am 36 so time is of the essence.
I feel as if we have just been left to wait while my few remaining fertile years waste away. What would you do? Any suggestions?
thanks

Hi,
I'm sorry I don't know anything about chlamydia--I don't know whether it has any effect on your fertility or not. And I don't know what PID is. Having 2 open tubes is wonderful news, though, even though they had to sort of push one of them open. And it's great that you ovulate regularly and on your own without meds. You have a lot going for you! I would definitely try to see an RE or a fertility specialist of some kind soon. I think your doctor may just not know enough about infertility to be able to help. Clomid can be used even if you're ovulating, and there are other medicines that may help too. I don't see why you'd need a laparoscopy--it sounds to me like you've done the diagnostic part and now you need some treatments to get you pg again! It may not be covered by your insurance but I think it would be worth it at least to talk to someone and get an idea of whether they think they could help you. Then you and your hubby can decide together if it's worth the financial investment to go out-of-pocket for infertility services.
Lots of luck to you!

Hello and Welcome,
I agree with Amanda, I would try to schedule an appt with an RE, or a specialist, in your area.
I have been dealing with primary infertility and after doing much research found a book that has helped me.
I'd check with a fertility specialist of some sort because I've read chlamydia can cause fertility issues especially if it did progress to PID.
