Anybody ever gone through IVM ?

I found out yesterday that our last attempt at IUI failed. Happy Valentines to us. We were told that if this last attempt did not work we would have to switch to IVF or IVM. I know about IVF, but I don't know much about IVM. Has anybody tried that technique yet? It is suppose to be cheaper the IVF as you do not need the drugs to stimulate the follicles since they take the immature follicles and grow them outside the body (suppose to be great if you have pcos since there is no need to stimulate the ovaries). I have no issue with that in our case it is MFI, but money is a problem for us. We just can't afford IVF and our insurance does not cover anything. Ironically I have found a few papers online that were written on the subject and it is our Dr. that wrote them. They seem to be getting good results.

Does anybody have any suggestions or experience with it? We see our Dr. on the 4th and he will tell us more. I would just like to go into the app. with a better idea of our options.

I hope somebody has a suggestion

I have not gone through IVM, but I noticed you still haven’t had a response, so I did a google search. I couldn’t find much on it, but I did find this link:

It seems like IVM is mostly useful in women who tend to hyper stimulate. I would ask your doctor if it would be a better solution to IVF for you, especially since it is a fairly new procedure and while the cost of the medication is lower, they do have to grow the eggs in the lab which can be extremely expensive. But it is an option, and I certainly hope that either this or IVF is the miracle you need.

In our case the lower cost would be one of the biggest reasons to go with IVM. Our center is one of just a handful that is using that procedure with apparently good success. They are currently doing a research project on the procedure so it is cheaper the usual. It is hard to find info on the procedure as it is not widely used yet. At our infertility clinic they have done more then 600 in the last year with good results. I am still worried though. If we had the money we would go IVF, we just can't afford it.

All I know is that I want to have a baby. Thanks for the article it was great.

I know exactly what you mean about the cost. It is crazy how much we are spending for this. I guess we spend what we have to though. Good luck. I will be really interested to hear how it goes if you decide to do the IVM.

We meet with the Dr. on the 4th, I will let you know how it goes. If it is allot cheaper we are considering trying it out. Because they are doing a study on it at our clinic, the cost is suppose to be better to get more people to try it. I found a study on line about the procedure that was written by our Dr. ironically and it showed that the results have been good. I have also found a page that describes a little about who is the best candidate and how it work.

If anybody is interested I can add them to a post.

Good luck to everybody who is out there ttc. It is a hard road that we travel, I find it great that you guys are out there helping me through it. So thank you to everybody.
