Having HSG next week and scared - help!

Hi all,

I'm having the hysterosalpingogram next Wednesday - I know it doesn't hurt but I'm so nervous. Any insights, advice, stories to share? I hear that if there is indeed an obstruction, the dye can push it out sometimes, making the procedure therapeutic. But still  - having a thing inside me for 30 minutes, ugh....am trying not to freak, but I hate those things! Can you help me?

Thanks.

Thanks so much Ashley! You make me feel so much better. I hope they let my DH come in with me. I had another procedure a couple of months ago and I took my mother and they wouldn't let her come in with me, which was upsetting. We shall see. I read online that you're not supposed to have sex for a couple of weeks after, for risk of infection - is that true? You read so much bs online...It would get in the way of our ttc if we had to abstain for that long, but of course I don't want an infection....Thanks for being there!

Caren,

I'm not sure about the waiting for two weeks and infection.

Hello there... I just though I would ease you mind or try at least... I had an HSG done about 2 years ago and although it was uncomfortable It was not that bad.... and believe me I am THE BIGGEST BABY!!! when it comes to stuff like that I get sick and pass out when I have to have blood work done and don't even get me started on IVs ugh.

I am having the procedure on day 11 of my cycle which is when I am supposed to start trying. But I have a feeling I will be too sore and that the stress leading up to this procedure will screw

I had an HSG in Aug 2006. It def. did not last 30 minutes. More like 5. (the procedure, that is). Entire time in the hospital was like 4 hours, mostly waiting around.

I also BD right after and was not told to wait 2 weeks!

I found the procedure to be more painful than I was expecting, BUT I wasn't expecting it to hurt at all. To be honest, at most it was an uncomfortable 2 minutes THAT'S IT. So given that you are nervous I would bet you will not think it is bad at all.

Good luck!!
