Dear Mr. Mean:
Enclosed are two letters of recommendation from my doctors currently treating me: Dr. Joseph Blah, my primary care and family physician, and Dr. Christopher Blahblahblah, my obstetrician. Both doctors are supportive and enthusiastic about my desire to remain working full time both as an instructor and as an embalmer. My only hindrance is that I cannot lift more than 25 pounds.
Dr. Blahhas been my primary care doctor since I was a teenager. Dr. Blahblahblah has been overseeing my pregnancy visits since early December and continues to care for the pregnancy. Neither Dr. Blah nor Dr. Blahblahblah find any reason as to why I should curb my prep room activities while I am wearing a formaldehyde respirator. I have purchased a 3M respirator with formaldehyde cartridges from Crescent Sales Company and plan to use it every time I am in the prep room.
I believe it is important that I remain a fixture in the prep room whether I am pregnant or not. Being pregnant does not detract from my skills. Additionally, I feel it sets an important example for the female students at Dead School. It would not send a positive message if, because of my pregnancy, I stopped embalming and shunned the prep work. The funeral business is difficult as it is for women to break into; pregnancy no longer is a threat or a risk to the profession thanks to modern respirators. Further, my doctors have assured me that formaldehyde exposure is not threat to the viability of a fetus or a pregnancy.
Additionally, I will not be requesting a lighter course load. I plan to remain working at Dead School throughout the summer semesters since the baby is not due until mid-August. I will be returning to Dead School for my normal course load in Fall 2009. I am requesting that no courses are taken from my roster due to my pregnancy or the birth of my child. I already have child care accounted for while I am working.
I sincerely hope that you continue to see me as a strong instructor and a positive influence and role model for the students of Dead School. If you have any questions, please feel free to call either of my doctors.
