1st OB appt

Wed, 12-23-2009 - 7:47pm

I went for my first OB appt today.  I could tell the ladies doing the workup before the dr. didn't know much about IVF.  They wanted to know the date of my last menstrual cycle, which of course puts me further along than I am.  I explained that I know the "day of ovulation" because I know when egg retrieval was, but they have their ways of calculating things, so I just let the u/s tech know so she didn't scare me by saying that the baby wasn't measuring right.

The u/s tech didn't say much during the u/s, which made me nervous.  I guess they aren't used to people being so wary of how things are going.  I couldn't see the screen and she told me that she would show me later.  She then showed DH the sac and the yolk sac and then baby.  I was waiting patiently for her to say and here's the heartbeat or something to let me know that there was still a heartbeat.  When she didn't, I finally had to speak up and ask before I went nuts in anticipation.  She then played the heartbeat for us, twice!  I could tell it was stronger and faster than last week.  166 bpm vs 134 bpm last week.

Below is the newest u/s.  It's so amazing how fast they grow from week to week now!  It looks more like a baby than the little seahorse last week. :)

DH is pretty relaxed now with this pregnancy.  He told me that as soon as the betas came back good, he felt better because hopefully that meant the DS solved the problems for the past losses.  I'm relieved that we've made it this far and enjoying every moment.  I've been very good at keeping any negative thoughts out of my mind.  But, will I ever be able to think this could all go well and we could have this baby in August?!  My next appt is in 3 weeks at 11 weeks.  It always feels like we're waiting for the next hurdle.

Grace, I'm so happy that things are going so well. I would have been freaking out, too! I'll bet that was hard to just sit there and wonder. I think I would have demanded to see the screen. I don't know if they would have let me though. That is great that the heartbeat is getting faster and stronger. He/she is getting cuter and cuter.

Congrats on a good U/S. DH and I went through 8 yrs of IF. So we've walked in those shoes a LONG time. I'm sorry to say that I don't think you ever stop worrying, or "wait" for the next hurdle. I'm 6 mos pg today, and still worry day to day if something bad will go wrong. I'm SOO ready to see my OB every 2 weeks!! The HB always gives me relief for a day or so.

Great about the heartbeat, Grace. I know what you mean about hurdle after hurdle. I did hear that once you have a heartbeat, you are almost guaranteed that the baby will be carried to term. Great to hear DH is relaxing, and I hope you can too!

Congrats and best wishes!
