IVF + PGD: anyone with experience?
Wed, 08-06-2003 - 8:50am

I am new here so I hope I do this right.

I live in Holland and will be starting my 1st IVF plus PGD attempt in October. I have had recurrent miscarriages and we found out that my husband has a chromossomal mutation (translocation), that's the reason for the PGD.

I am quite anxious (and afraid) to start the treatment and would like to know if anyone is in a similar situation (translocation) and has had success after IVF/PGD. My fear is that our chances are neglectable.

Thanks in advance.

On my third IVF we did PGD. We started with 7 eggs, 5 fertilized and 2 passed the PGD test-they were both girls.

Unfortunately they didn't "stick"

The test cost us an additional 4000 dollars, we may try again we have to wait ans see what the RE says.

I am 45 and we have been TTC for 3 years, 2 miscarriages prior to IVF

Hi K,

I am sorry to hear about your experiences. We are also trying to conceive for 3 years (I am 34). I had 5 early miscarriages and know how much such things affect a person/couple.

Here in Holland the insurance (both private or from the government) covers 3 IVF/PGD attempts, no extra costs. Financial considerations really start to play a role only after these 3 times. I can imagine that the money aspect is an extra heavy burden in other countries, in particular when one must do a PGD.

Because I had many miscarriages I was told that the probability to get a good embryo through PGD is quite low. Further my hormone levels are quite high. So we are not allowing ourselves to have much hope, but a little bit is necessary, I suppose.

I hope you are recovered from the last IVFs (can imagine every attempt brings a lot of emotions with it) and wish lots of luck with your next try.
