Hi. I have been trying to conceive recently and all these things are happening with my body, I'm not sure if they are normal. Anyhow, I had ic on Monday and on Tuesday, I noticed that my vaginal area (front part) was really swollen. I got a little freaked out, but thought that it might go away. It's Friday already and it's still a little swollen (not as bad as on Tuesday). Is this normal? I'm too embarrassed to go to the gyn. I don't think this has happened to me before......or maybe I just didn't notice??? Can someone please give me peace of mind?

thanks

Hi sugarnspice123, welcome!

Mmmm… were you guys pretty energetic having IC? Doing things differently or more strenuously? Were you bruised, and is the area tender to the touch or otherwise uncomfortable? If the swelling is still there you might want to ask your doctor about it.

Since you are TTC, have you read Toni Weschler’s book Taking charge of Your Fertility? It is a very good book about how to use your fertile signs; basal body temperature, cervical position and cervical mucus to increase the likelihood of or to avoid pregnancy. It is full of good information and an easy read. I’m not trying to run you away, we’d love for you to stay, but there are some really good iVillage TTC boards on Parents Place See the list of boards at: http://www.parentsplace.com/messageboards/ Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck in TTC!

Hi Jill,

no, there's no bruising or any other symptom besides the swelling. We didn't do anything unusual, in fact, we stayed pretty "traditional" in missionary style. Do you think it could be anything I should worry about?

Where exactly is/was the swelling, your labia, mons pubis, clitoris...? Where you using a new or different lube? How long have you been off hormonal contraceptives? Did you reach orgasm? Sometimes if you are aroused but don’t reach release the blood that pools in your pelvic area will take some time to redistribute, usually not more than an hour or so, not days. I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about but I’m a layperson with no medical training. If it happens again it’s probably a good idea to mention it to your doc, ok? Let us know what s/he says.

Good luck,
