2 questions - morning after pill & bumps

Ok I know how stupid this is, but I had a drunken one night stand last weekend and we didn't use protection (trust me I am slapping myself for this one now) - I took the morning after pill the next day and my first question is, how effective is it against pregnancy?

My second question is, I've noticed a few bumps down there but I think they are most likely from shaving (I shave regularly and have noticed these kind of bumps before) but is there a way to tell the difference between genital warts and bumps caused by shaving? I got an STD test done the day I was prescribed the morning after pill but I won't hear results for at least another week so I am starting to get worried!

Thanks :)

Hi janh54, welcome!

This is from question 13: (How effective is emergency contraception?) on the EC site: http://ec.princeton.edu/

“On average, if 100 women have unprotected intercourse once during the second or third week of their cycle, 8 will become pregnant. Following treatment with combined ECPs, 2 will become pregnant (a 75% reduction in the risk of pregnancy); Following treatment with progestin-only ECPs, 1 will become pregnant (a 89% reduction in the risk of pregnancy); Following emergency insertion of a copper IUD, the risk of pregnancy is reduced by more than 99%.”

If your encounter was last weekend, a day or two ago (today is Mon. 8/2), it’s probably too early for STD lesions to appear. I’d guess your bumps are ingrowns from shaving. You were wise to be tested. You might want to ask this question on the iVillage STD board http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhsexdisease as the ladies there have a lot more experience in that specific area than we do here. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck,
