sorry i posted my message in 2 places!

I am 22 years old, and have been on the birth control pills Loestrin FE (but the generic, microgestin) for four years. I take them faithfully and have never missed a day. My B/F of 8 years moved away about a year ago, and we see each other every 2-4 months (I will be moving to meet him soon). The Question? He visited me for about 2 weeks, and of course, we had sex several times. I never missed a pill the whole time he was here, and took them within 1-2 hours of each night. (Ex, 8:30-10:30 every night). This week, my breasts seem larger, although my period is scheduled to start in 10-11 days. I worry that I may be pregnant, simply because I haven't had sex until he visited me, and suddenly, my breasts are swollen 11 days before my period. I have no tendernous or nausea... Am I just being paranoid? I absolutley cannot have children right now, since we are both in the process of graduating from college within the next 5 months. Please reassure me that since I took them faithfully, I should have nothing to worry about... THANKS EVERYONE!

Hi siddy_1, welcome!

There is no 100% effective method of contraception, except abstinence. However, if you have been taking your pills correctly then you should be very safe. The pill is 98-99% effective. I know a change here or there can cause us to begin to wonder and that may be what is going on now. If you guys were eating a lot of chocolate, sodas and snacks the caffeine and sodium may be causing the swelling. I don't think you should have any reason to worry. Just try and relax. I'll bet Aunt Flo will be along on schedule. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Hugs,

      Jill

Hi. I took a pregnancy test this morning to help ease my fears. It was negative. Although my period is not scheduled for 7-8 more days, it definately helped to ease my fears. I usually have breast swelling 1 week or so before my period, but I guess I'm just paying more attention this time since I'm so worried. I appreciate the advice and any more you can give. THanks!
