Do my bf's meds pass through his semen?

Hi,
I have a strange question... My boyfriend is taking a few different medications. He takes Zantac for his anxiety and Trazadone (?) for depression/insomnia. He also takes recreational steroids, which his says are legal (in pill form). I am wondering if his medications will pass through his semen when he ejaculates during oral sex. Is there a chance I can be taking in these medications by mouth? Thank you.

I don't know the answer to your question. Some meds, when metabolized, are eventually excreted through the kidneys. If you have him in your mouth before his pre-ejaculate purges his plumbing you might get a tiny amount that way. If there were traces I think they would be in very small amounts. If you knew exactly what he was taking you might be able to look up the prescribing information to see if there is any mention of the med. being in semen. Your doctor might be able to answer your question. The Zantac prescribing info is: http://www.gsk.com/products/zantac_us.htm Trazadone/Trazodone http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-d03.html can lead to prolonged erections in male patients. The information on this link says in part:
“Trazodone has been associated with the occurrence of priapism. In approximately 33% of the cases reported, surgical intervention was required and, in a portion of these cases, permanent impairment of erectile function or impotence resulted. Male patients with prolonged or inappropriate erections should immediately discontinue the drug and consult their physician. If the condition persists for more than 24 hours, it would be advisable for the treating physician to consult a urologist or appropriate specialist in order to decide on a management approach.â€
If he has an Rx for the steroids or if you can get the name you might be able to find out about them. Your best bet is to ask your pharmacist or doctor the question you posted here. Sorry not to be of more help. Let us know what your doctor says, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
