Hi!!! I've been married for about six months now and the sex has been painful for most of it. Its not a vaginal pain but its a pain in the lower abdomen. I visited my gynac and he did a bunch of tests and said it was vaginitis. He put me on some medication and I had relief only for a few days and now its been two months and the pain is still there. I really am going nuts coz I love making love to my husband. I dont have any insurance and still paying off my previous bill, so I wont be visiting the doc for a while. Someone PLEASE HELP!!! Any idea as to what could be wrong. There seems to be no inflamation anywhere...I am clueless and sad. Thanks!!!

Hi dreamydaffodil, I'm sorry that sex is a problem! Unfortunately the only one who can actually diagnose or treat you is going to be your doctor. If it were a cold, you could take OTC cold medicine, but for gynecological problems, there just aren't over-the-counter remedies.

If it's a pain in your lower abdomen, I'm surprised that he thought it was vaginitis, unless you are having vaginal symptoms. He didn't do an ultrasound or anything like that to make sure that everything is of normal shape, size, and position? There's just so many things that it could be, what you've described doesn't point to anything in particular yet.

For your next appointment, when you can afford it, make sure you write down where it hurts, how it hurts, when it hurts, and anything you can find that makes it better or worse in as much detail as you can.

I'm sorry I don't have a good answer for you! But trust me...painful sex and I aren't strangers, and I know how tough it is to deal with, on a physical and psychological level. Good luck!

Thanks Judie!! I did ask him a few times how vaginitis and painful sex in the lower abdomen are connected but he said it just is. He didn't do an ultra sound..maybe I should get one done. Is there a website that has a picture of internal body parts named so I can tell him exactly where it hurts. Thanks a bunch!

I'd start with places like WebMD, the Mayo Clinic website, maybe Medline has something...these types of general medical information sites may be more likely to have a diagram of the internal organs of a woman, and doing an internet search can sometimes give you....not the type of results you're looking for! But an internet search for pelvic pain or lower abdominal pain might bring up medical sites with pics.

Good luck!

Hi Judie!! Thanks for ur help. I did have a couple more questions though. I do have a good sexual drive but its hard for me to get lubricated so we use some kind of lubrication. DO you think that could be the cause of the pain and if it is, is there an alternative. Its embarassing but I need to know. I can't expect oral sex every time we want to have sex. Any suggestions. Thanks
