Uncircumsized bf and sexual health

So hi all...

I'm a bit confused. Now my bf is totally disease free and all so I am not concerned. But I've heard that sometimes men who are uncircumsized can pass on things like cervical cancer (I know this sounds kooky - but apparently sometimes if uncut guys don't keep it clean enough then a carcinogen can develop and be passed onto the woman). I just wondered though if this was actually a possibility? LIke I said, he's disease free and we've been considering not using condoms (oh yea I'm on the pill don't worry ha ha).

Are there additional concerns that a girl with an uncut guy should have to consider?

Hi climbinggirl, welcome back!

Here are links to two articles that address sex with uncircumcised men. If they don’t practice good hygiene there could be an increased risk.

and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/1921837.stm

I think the important part is: “as long as uncircumcised men are careful about keeping their genitals clean, the risk of cervical cancer in their partners should not be any greater than that for circumcised men.” A sexually active woman should have an annual pap smear that should detect any problem before it becomes serious.

Take care,

Thanks Jill, that article was very helpful. It seems agreed upon that uncircumsized men are more vulnerable to getting STD's and so on (and HPV). What they didn't specify though is - do the uncircumsized men with HPV get it from another partner? Or does it just appear as well if they are not hygenic? That is something I've always been worried about.

So strange.

Thank you again...

Hi climbinggirl:

If your man DOES NOT keep himself clean, yeast infection can be spread to you.

Does an STD test test for HPV?

As far as testing, I think it will depend on what is asked for. If you are concerned if HPV was tested for recently you might ask your and your partner's doctors exactly what was tests were made. Here are links to articles on HPV from Planned Parenthood http://www.plannedparenthood.org/sti/HPVfacts1.html the American Social Health Association http://www.ashastd.org/stdfaqs/hpv.html and about testing for HPV. http://www.ivillagehealth.com/experts/womens/qas/0,,234287_127950,00.html While it's certainly good to be knowledgeable about potential risks I don't think you should be overly concerned. If he tests, or has tested, clean then fine. As I understand it the risk of HPV is no greater with an uncircumcised man who practices good personal hygiene than with a circumcised man.

Take care,
