Help with odor after sex?

Hello, new to board.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they know what may be going on. Me and my hubby have been together for seven years. After we have sex, there is a very bad fishy odor. I have seen my OB about it. They tested for the bacterial infection that causes it, it was positive once, then after that negative, but the problem didn't resolve itself. They basically told me they didn't know why it was happing, because there was nothing there. So, bascially I started avoiding sex as much as possible because I didn't want to go anywhere smelling bad the next day. Even if I got up right after and washed, it didn't help. It caused problems between me and hubby. (I didn't tell him what was going on, really didn't know how to tell him). Finally, a few years later in an argument it came up and I told him, so we are now using condoms to stop the odor. It just isn't the same and the condoms are rather irritating to me. I think I may be allergic to latex. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or if there is something I could do to prevent it? My bathroom already looks like the feminie care isle of the supermarket! I just want things to get better between us again. Thanks. Butterflyandivy

Hi butterflyandivy, welcome!

If you are noticing the odor only after intercourse and the use of condoms prevents the problem then the source is probably DH's ejaculate. The smell and taste of bodily fluids are influenced by what you eat. For example, think of the smell of urine after eating asparagus. Ewww! If DH's diet is high in red meat or spicy foods then that could account for the odor. Fresh fruit, especially pineapple, can make bodily fluids smell and taste sweeter. You might suggest adjusting his diet and keep a log of the results. If you find you need to continue using condoms you might want to try the polyurethane ones like Trojan Supra and Avanti. Let us know what you find, ok?

Good luck,
