Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know a tricky question, I`ve had the answer vary widely but would like some input from all of you.

Is it highly likely to concieve practically the day after your period ends?

Example -

during a 7 day pmentrual cycle, on the (8th day) there is sexual activity (not intercourse), are females at a high conception point, or are the hormones to concieve at a fairly low level?

I am concerned because I engaged in sexual activity (not sex, but the actions of) with my boyfriend the day after my period stopped, and I heard a female is high risk for pregnancy around that time....my sources are heresay, I would like your opinions.

Thank U

Hi shoredae, welcome!

"Is it highly likely to concieve practically the day after your period ends?"

If you have irregular or short periods then it's possible that you could be fertile during your period. If you were fertile and your partner’s sperm came in contact with your fertile cervical mucus then his swimmers could live for several days, long enough to reach your tubes and wait for you to ovulate. If you aren't fertile sperm can live only a few hours inside you. So, I think the answer to your question is no, it's not "highly likely" you can conceive at the end of your period, but it can happen. There doesn’t have to be penetration you can transfer sperm on your fingers and there are some sperm in his pre-ejaculate so he doesn’t have to ejaculate to put you at risk. If you and your BF are going to play around with his fluids it would be a really good idea if you got on an effective method of birth control. For an excellent explanation of your menstrual cycle read Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's available in your local library and at most bookstores. Does this help?

Good luck,
