creative with AF?

OK...Hi Jill and all...yes, I'm blushing, but I still want to know...
I (but not really my DH) have pretty much an aversion to IC during AF... Can anybody here share ideas of how to be creative without being too messy? I hate taking nearly a week off from IC...plus my hormones begin shifting toward the higher desire level a day or two before it's completely over. Ideas? (nothing is out because of TMI on this for me ladies)
Thanks,
Sandy

Hi sandy, welcome!
You have a ParaGard IUD, right? Dark towels and candle light when AF is visiting work well. And your washing him off afterward with a warm soapy washcloth while he’s still in bed is usually appreciated. IC in the shower where everything washes off is always fun too! Also there are Instead http://www.softcup.com/ menstrual cups that catch your flow and have a soft dome so that you can have IC while wearing them. I use a cervical cap for contraception between periods and during them I wear a Milex wide seal silicone diaphragm for contraception and flow control and that arrangement works very well for me. However, an IUD might rule out the use of Instead or a diaphragm as there is the possibility they could pull on the strings of your IUD enough, during cup removal, to displace it. The manufacturers of menstrual cups and diaphragms usually caution against using them with an IUD. We had an IUD user post on the BC board that she was using Instead and it pulled on her strings. She had an ultrasound to make sure her IUD was still in place, which it was but she decided not to use a cup again. If you want to try a cup you might check with the doctor who inserted your ParaGard and see what s/he recommends. I hope other members will post with their suggestions. Let us know what you decide, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
Thanks for some additional ideas, Jill (come on everybody else I am still looking for ideas!) Basically you added some details to ideas we had not completely worked out, thanks:) And yes, I'm a new Paragard used so probably will skip on the softcup idea...I remember the post you mentioned from the bc board.
One thing we have done and I am not sure about how good of an idea it is, partly because of the string thing...on the last couple days of my AF we have twice now gotten carried away and just had IC with a tampon in place (only once have we done this since I got an IUD). Afterward I remove and replace it correcting the position. It seems to help with the messiness. Thoughts?
