Hi guys, i posted yesterday about the vaginal irriatation and i went to planned parenthood today and they told me i had a slight yeast infection, well im always abnormally paranoid about things and ive never had one of these before and i keep thinking "maybe she missed something" so if you guys could let me know whats normal for a yeast infection...i know about the discharge and the itch but its also very tender and itchy around my urethra too, is that normal for a yeast infection?? im jsut really confused as to whats normal with yeast infections and whats not normal...I had sex for the first time last week, is that why this happend??

Hi mandoos, welcome back!

Yeast infections are very common and easily treated. Having your first intercourse might have contributed to a yeast infection, but it would be difficult to say for sure. Sometimes hormonal contraceptives make a woman more susceptible to getting YIs. Or, it might be, if the condoms were coated with spermicide, something in the spermicide caused your vaginal ph to change enough to permit a YI to occur or it could have been something else entirely that caused the ph to change. It is always a good idea for both you and your partner to wash your hands before you begin foreplay. That way, when he fingers you there is less likelihood of an infection.

The itching around your urethra is probably part of the YI. If you had a urinary tract infection (UTI) you would almost certainly feel a frequent need to urinate even when your bladder is empty and it would burn when you urinated. Here’s an article that will give you a good bit of information about YIs. Yeast Infections: http://www.ivillagehealth.com/library/nwh/content/0,,215912_227431,00.html

Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck,
