Help! Can I have sex?!?!
| Fri, 02-25-2005 - 2:01am |
Just went to the doctor because of painful irritation and she wasn't sure if I had a yeast infection or BV. She said to treat it like a yeast infection for now, until tests came back from the lab, which I have, and it seems to have cleared up.
Wanted to know, if it is BV, can I still have sex with a condom? (I wouldn't want to give it to my partner and have us transmitting it back and forth, but we're going away this weekend and it would be so sad if we couldn't get it on!)
Any input is appreciated! I know I should've asked her but I wasn't thinking at the time...
Thanks!
Steph

Hi Steph, welcome!
You are right to use condoms. Depending what medicine your doctor gave you to treat your YI you might want to use polyethylene condoms (such as Avanti or Trojan Supra) because the oil in some yeast meds. can destroy latex ones.
Articles on YI and BV: Vaginal yeast infection http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001511.htm You might want to avoid intercourse unless you use a condom until your course of treatment is completed as 12-15% of male partners can develop symptoms from contact with an infected partner.
Bacterial vaginosis http://familydoctor.org/234.xml Let us know how you’re doing.
Good luck,
Jill
