recently we have encountered a situation that has left me wondering what in the world is going on. SO is 59 years old, and has always had a very healthy sexual appetite. in the past year or so, his erections have not been as hard as he would like them to be, so under doctors advice, occasionally used Viagra and more recently Cialis. in the past month, it seems as tho he can get an erection easy enough, but once he is inside me, it goes away and of course is unable to ejaculate. this is making both of us rather uncomfortable. can anyone offer any suggestions or solutions?

Hi chiefsqueen, welcome!

>> under doctors advice, occasionally used Viagra and more recently Cialis. in the past month, it seems as tho he can get an erection easy enough, but once he is inside me, it goes away and of course is unable to ejaculate. this is making both of us rather uncomfortable. can anyone offer any suggestions or solutions? <<

The prescribing information for Cialis (tadalafil) http://pi.lilly.com/us/cialis-pi.pdf says that there are three strengths available 5mg, 10mg and 20mg and that it can be taken at different intervals of time. Two large clinical trials indicated that Cialis was effective in producing an erection of sufficient duration to permit ejaculation in 50% and 64% of the instances so Cialis is not a 100% effective medication. The prescribing information says this about beginning Cialis:

“DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended starting dose of CIALIS in most patients is 10 mg, taken prior to anticipated sexual activity. The dose may be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg, based on individual efficacy and tolerability. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day in most patients.”

It seems to me that (depending on SO’s overall health) his Cialis dosing regimen might need adjusting. There is also the possibility of other medications he is taking interacting with Cialis to make it more or less potent. His Urologist or the doctor who prescribed Cialis would be a good person to discuss this problem with. Let us know what you find out.

Good luck,
