discharge

I have been noticing a larger quanity of discharge in the last 2 months, it is clear/cloudy white, thicker, sticky and kind of clumpy (I noticed it after finishing up with sex on the condom, and recently after removing a dildo the clumps)than normal discharge and there's no noticable different odor. I have been experiencing on and off vulvular itching (external), not all the time or very intense. Also some itching after a clitoral orgasm. Sometimes I have noticed some white creamy dishcharge on the sides of my vulva (interior). I got out of my first sexual relationship a month and a half ago. I got a pap smear in the middle of January, and I tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhoea and had normal vaginal cultures, (and I was experiencing some of the same symptoms then). My only question is that when I got my pap smear I had only been sexually active for a month, so could it be something now? is this a yeast infection as I've never had one before? Could the thicker discharge and the itching be due to the fact I am ovulating right now, period is due in early april? Btw I am getting std tested on april 1st, also we always used condoms for intercourse.

Thanks!

Hi ccs_2004, welcome!

It sounds to me as though you have a yeast infection. For more about YIs see: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001511.htm You should see your doctor and be tested to make sure that is what the problem is so you treat it with the correct medicine. YIs can be triggered by anything that upsets the vaginal Ph enough to allow the yeast to overgrow the other (good) bacteria that live in your vagina. Sometimes when you are very estrogenic (at mid cycle) your discharge can be thicker, milky white and clumpy but thicker discharge caused by increased estrogen doesn't cause you to be itchy so I'll bet you have a YI which can be easily treated. If your doctor gives you a vagina medicine be sure to ask if it's compatible with condoms. Some oil based meds will cause latex condoms to fail very quickly. Thanks for posting. Let us know what your doctor says and how you're doing.

Take care,

I went to the doctor yesterday, she took some cultures but was pretty sure it was yeast. She also checked my pap results from January and commented that on them it said yeast was found. But to be sure she is running tests for a bacterial infection and chlamydia, I should get those results next week. Now I just have to get some blood work done to test for other STDs and I'll be set.

I got my test and culture results today. Everything came out negative, like I thought. As for my discharge, I have an overgrowth of a vaginal flora, which is a normal occurance, it isn't exactly yeast, but yeast was present in my culture so my doctor recommended that I use some over the counter cream and if that does not help, come back to see her.
