Yeast Infections from Bathroom Mould?

Recently, my Roommate and I (we're in university and share a hotel room and bathroom between the two of us) both started to get recurrent yeast infections. We both have never had any before 2005, and then all of a sudden, we both began getting them all the time.
I never realized until we began talking about it last night. At the beginning of the year, I became sexually active with a new partner, and figured that was the cause of the problem. But upon treatment after treatment and awkwardly asking him to use the antifungal creams as well, nothing seemed to get better. My roommate, who is not currently sexually active, is getting them almost as much as I am, and we're both so irritated! We've both been to our doctors, mine said it just looked like yeast and I should get over the counter treatment, hers said everything looked normal. Otherwise we're clean, healthy (STD free) girls.
We both began thinking it just couldnt be coincidence. We also have symptoms of itchy joints and skin rashes, sinus problems for no reason, moodiness, etc.
So, being a science student, I developed a theory. There seems to be mould in our bathroom (though we're clean we both noticed it there, especially on the shower curtain) and I'm thinking that the spores are spreading through the air, getting on the toilet paper that we share, which is proliferating the infection. Is this feasible at all???
We both mutually decided to go on a yeast-sugar free diet for 2-3 weeks as I saw suggested on the net. We are also moving out of the hotel as of next week. But has anyone ever heard of something like this? I know its a little crazy...but were both praying that its the cause and there is nothing seriously wrong with us!

Hi stephw86, welcome!
I haven't heard of common mold that is found in bathrooms causing that sort of reaction, but I suppose it might be possible. Do you know if others in your building are experiencing similar problems? Did any changes to your environment occur at about the time you and roomie began having problems, such as new carpet, exterminator spraying for insects, fresh paint in the building? Or, are you and your roommate using scented tp or scented soaps, or the same soap? Sometimes it doesn't take much to throw your vaginal ph off enough to cause a YI. Has your discharge been tested so that you know for sure that you just have a common YI? Since you are moving in a few days and are changing your diets I hope that will eliminate your problem. Come back and let us know how you're doing.
Good luck,
Jill
