Hi Ya'll. I just got a membership and I am all over these boards because I have many issues! Anyways, I'll make this quick since its hard for me to condense any problem I have. I will give you background info to help your understanding of my problem, so please bear with me and I am sorry if I give you TMI.
I have just recently found the love of my life, and we have been together for three months so far. We are very intimate: probably an average of 2 times a day if not more. We don't use condoms because they hurt to bad, (if your wondeirng)and I have also been diagnosed with vaginitis because I am constantly irritated and dry. I have to use dialators because the opening of my vagina is so small and I always get torn with condoms and sometimes without because I can't seem to produce enough lube during penetration. So I am trying to expand my opening, but that is another issue.
My doctor prescribed me Premarin -a hormone pill to help me with the dryness and irritation, and it's also suppose to help me become balanced out again because I just recently stopped the DEPO. He also prescribed me the Estrogen cream to apply nightly, but I haven't because it irritates me even more and leaks, which makes me itchy.
My problem is I have gotton 4 bacteria infections and 1 yeast infection with a bacteria infection since I have been with my boyfriend. I don't know if he is a bacteria "carrier" if there is such a thing because I read that somewhere, or if I am just infecting him and he is reinfecting me.
*Is that possible?
*Can guys get bacteria and yeast infections?
I also have to admit that intercourse is very painful while I have these infections -DUH. I swell, become red, really itchy and irritated. I figure I shouldn't be having sex while I have these infections (another DUH), but I am on antibiotics and he doesn't seem to be affected by it, and I never experience symptoms, such as the discharge or odor. I just get irritated.
Any advice/help would be appreciated!

Hi steviejo19, welcome!
Hold on a minute Hon...What method of contraception are you using? You say you are coming off Depo, so you can not count on that for protection. You aren't using condoms and you are on antibiotics which, if you are on the pill, patch or ring could decrease the effectiveness of your hormonal protection. I hope I’m wrong but unless there is something I’m missing it sounds to me like you are at risk for an unintended pregnancy.

Being dry from Depo is a very common problem. You need to use an intimate lubricant like Astroglide, Slippery Stuff or K-Y Liquid and use lots of it... In your situation where you are both tight and dry an intimate lube can be your best friend.

Have you told your doctor that you can't/won't use the estrogen cream? He may be able to prescribe another kind that will be better. Ask him or her if there is something else that s/he can prescribe.

Here are links to good articles on Yeast Infections http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001511.htm and Bacterial Vaginosis. http://familydoctor.org/234.xml It is possible but not very likely to pass a YI back and forth between partners. With your BV it may be that you need a stronger medicine. Are you taking ALL your medicine for the infections? Taking meds only until the symptoms go away will not cure the infection and it could make it worse.

If I were you I’d try to stop or at least considerably reduce the frequency of intercourse until you get your infections under control. Just to recap here… I recommend that you:
1. Talk to your doctor about a replacement for the estrogen cream that is itchy. It might just be that you will have to heal a bit before you can comfortably use the cream. Talk it through with your doc….
2. If you aren’t already doing it be sure to take all of your antibiotics and take it correctly
3. Get some intimate lubricant and use a LOT of it. That should eliminate the discomfort, for you, of using condoms.
4. From what you posted your only effective form of birth control at least while you are still on antibiotics (and for 7 days after the last dose if you are on hormonal contraceptives) are condoms. Not using condoms you are risking pregnancy.
Thanks for posting. Please come back and let us know how you’re doing.
Good luck,
Jill
