Hi, I had a couple questions.
My first is about Instead softcups. I dont know if this is the right board to ask it on but i just wanted to know more about them. I've been using tampons for a while but i wanted to try the Instead cups. Last time I had my period I had a very difficult time getting the cup inserted correctly.I think I tried about 3 timesand it just didnt seem inside right and I had to wear a pad too because there was leakage so I thought i must not of put it in right. Are there any helpful tips to putting them in for a first time user?
My other question is, can my regular gyno give me tests for stds and hiv ?or would i have to go to a clinic or hospital?I just want to make sure I am healthy in that area.
My final question is about yeast infections. IT seems like every since I got on the pill I keep getting yeast infections on and off. And its gotten worse the past 6 months. I dont know if its because of the pill that I just get discharge or its a yeast infection but it scares me because i think somethings wrong. When I had a check up with my gyno last August my pap was fine but she said i had a yeast infection. So she gave me some medication then it cleared up but i had to get a refill on the medication like 4 times because it kept coming back. The doctor told me certain things that could be causing it such but tried to soley blame it on eating sweets and ever since then i dont eat much sweets so i dont think thats the problem. I really want to get this taken care of because it makes me very uncomfortable. I also heard somewhere that when you have a yeast infection and have sex then you can keep passing the yeast infection back to yourself from your partner. But i'm not sure if thats the case. I just really need to know. Help please , thanks.

Hi nerd_clone2004, welcome!

While you are learning to insert correctly it might be helpful to first insert the first two fingers of either hand and feel the angle at which your vagina rises and where your cervix is located in relation to your vaginal barrel. Unlike tampons which you push UP, you should push Instead BACK as you are inserting it. The rim of Instead needs to encircle your cervix so that your flow is contained by the cup. The Instead site: http://www.softcup.com/ has some illustrations of insertion and a properly positioned Softcup under: The Instead Softcup / How do I use Softcup, on the menu bar at the top of the sites homepage. It will just take a bit of practice and you will get the hang of it.

Yes, your regular Gyn should be able to have your blood drawn and take the swabs required for the full range of STD tests.

A good article on Yeast Infections is: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001511.htm It is possible for partners to re-infect one another but that doesn’t happen very often. Women on hormonal contraceptives seem more prone to YIs. Some times a YI will reoccur because the medicine wasn’t strong enough or used long enough to completely cure the initial infection. Unsweetened cranberry juice and yogurt are two foods that may help prevent the occurrence of yeast infections and aid in their treatment. Wearing underwear and pantyhose with cotton crotches to avoid excessive moisture in your genital area and not wearing wet swimsuits for prolonged periods of time will help minimize chances of a YI occurring.
Thanks for posting. I hope you will come back and let us know how you’re doing and how you like Instead. Take care and...
Good luck,
Jill
