Hey everyone,
My b/f and I have been together for almost a year and I recently have gotten on BC because the hassle of condoms are quite annoying and we figure that since we are in a monogamous relationship, we can ditch them. I made him get tested before we got intimate for STD's and HIV about 8 months ago and everything came up fine but before we take that step in not using any type of protection, I want him to get tested for HIV only. I always get tested no matter what every 6 months. I think its better to be safe than sorry! He does not currently have health insurance anymore, so I suggested a Planned Parenthood Clinic. How much do these tests costs? especially the HIV test? Also can guys get tested to see if they are carriers of Trichomonosis?

Hi envyme_79, welcome!
It's a very good idea to be tested for HIV every 6 months if there is any reason for concern since it can take that long for tests to be accurate after infection. Planned Parenthood can test for HIV and Trichomoniasis in men. A Trichomoniasis fact sheet is: http://www.cdc.gov/std/Trichomonas/STDFact-Trichomoniasis.htm
It’s hard to say what HIV testing will cost. PP has a sliding scale of costs for patients on a low income so it would be a good idea to check if he qualifies ahead of time. Another option would be for him to go to a local public health clinic for testing. Thanks for posting.
Good luck,
Jill
