A couple of days ago, I noticed a lump in my vaginal area, near the clitoris. It wasn't painful, and I looked online and found that it was possibly a cyst, and that most cysts are nothing to worry about. Since then, it has grown very painful and uncomfortable, and the area surrounding it has started to swell. As much as I CAN look, it seems like there's a blood vessel or something right on the outside of it...I don't know what to do about this, and it's scaring me very badly. It didn't show up until I started my menstrual cycle, but I've never had problems like this before. Any idea what's going on??

Hi cravinchaos137, welcome!

It's probably nothing to worry about, just an ingrown hair or cyst, but no one can give you an accurate diagnosis on a message board. If it's really bothering you the best thing to do is to see your doctor. If money is tight Planned Parenthood (800-230-7526) has a sliding scale of prices for patients with small incomes and your local public health clinic should be inexpensive as well. Let us know what you decide and how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,

I posted my problem on a couple of message boards, because I like to get as many opinions as I can. I had someone tell me that it was possibly a boil, and that it would either drain itself, or I could lance it with a sterile pin, and let it drain. Well, it ended up draining itself, and it's MUCH better now, almost painless, aside from the fact that it's now an open wound. She said that she has gotten a couple in her time, always at the start of her period, and that they are usually caused by blood or sweat getting into an open pore and causing irritation. It's rather gross, and embarrassing, but nothing to really worry about. She said that using pads increases the possibility of a boil occuring. Thanks for your advice anyway, I appreciate it.

I'm glad it's feeling better. Be sure to put some Neosporin or another good medicated cream on it so it doesn't become infected and if it is still bothering you in a few days you should see your doctor to see why this is happening now. Thanks for the update.

Good luck,
