Hi there. My name is Kelly and I am 28. I've been married to Dh for almost 7 years now and life couldn't be better. My question is about the abdominal pain I have been feeling lately. It's usually on the lower right side (appendix area) and comes and goes. I also have been having a brownish discharge for about 3 days. AF ended on Sat. I usually never have any type of discharge after AF has gone. Any ideas on what this might be? I'm not too worried and I have had this pain before. It may have something to do with constipation because I have been very constipated lately too. Thank you for your help.

Hi Kelly, welcome!

Have you had a recent pelvic so you know everything is ok? If the pain never shifts from the right side you might have an iffy appendix. There are a lot of different organs in the lower abdomen that could be causing your symptoms so it would be a good idea, if the discomfort persists to see your doctor. Have you noticed the pain occurring at a specific time in your menstrual cycle?

Are you on hormonal contraceptives or cycling naturally? If you are on HCs then have you been on them for more than 3 months or less? Sometimes if you are new to hormones (less than 3 cycles) or switching pills they can cause irregular bleeding. Other things that can cause bleeding when on HCs are a diet change, stopping or starting supplements or losing weight. If you haven't had your annual yet you might want to give your doctor a call. Let us know how you're doing.

Good luck,

Hi Jill. Here are some answers to your questions. :-)

*Have you had a recent pelvic so you know everything is ok?
My exam is scheduled for June 30th

*Have you noticed the pain occurring at a specific time in your menstrual cycle?
I usually have mild ovulation pain, but this pain is stronger and doesn't come at any specific time that I have noticed.

*Are you on hormonal contraceptives or cycling naturally?
I am cycling naturally. I have been off the pill since Dec. 2003. We have been TTC #1 since then.

I also started taking a fiber supplement a few weeks ago, but stopped because it was causing me to have cramps (or so I figured). Once I stopped taking it, the cramps have gone away. I am not sure if the fiber had anything to do with it, but it may explain the spotting. The spotting has occurred since I stopped taking the fiber. Thanks for your help.
