Do I have BV?
| Mon, 07-25-2005 - 2:05am |
Hi I have been having some symptoms for awhile now. They seem to come and go. I have a white, thickish discharge sometimes, with no smell, and other times I'll have a fishy like odor down there especially after sex. My boyfriend notices the smell too which is embarrasing. I haven't gotten this checked out at my gyno, cause I got laid off from work and lost my insurance. I just keep putting it off, and hoping it will go away, which I know it won't. Does this sound like BV? Also the last month I have been having some sharp pains in my ovaries, all during the month, not just when I'm ovulating. I'm really scared right now, and worried about PID in the long run. Does anyone have anymore info on BV for me and the troubles from not having it treated. I know I must make a gyno appt.

Hi Mandy, welcome!

The thick white discharge could be a YI but because of the fishy odor after intercourse I’m betting on BV.

Left untreated BV and other vaginal infections can turn into something much more serious and possibly impair your fertility. If money is tight go to your public health clinic or a Planned Parenthood Health Center near you as soon as possible. Their services are either free or provided on an income based scale. Hon, please see a doctor as soon as you can, ok? Some good articles on vaginal diseases are:
Vaginal diseases http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/vaginaldiseases.html Bacterial Vaginosis http://familydoctor.org/234.xml and Vaginal Yeast Infection http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001511.htm
Come back and let us know how you’re doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
Hi Mandy, welcome back!
I'm so glad you went to your doctor and got some medicine! If you are on BCPs you know that while antibiotics you should be using back-up while you take your medicine and afterward until you have taken at least 7 consecutive active pills, right? Hope you're feeling better soon. Thanks for the update hon.
Good luck and hugs,
Jill
