Not sure whats wrong down there...

I've had this problem for quite awhile and never worried about too much until now. I recently got married and we are having sex now, I don't want to hurt him, so now I worry about it. On my labia, where the hairline starts (or ends depending on how you look at it, just to where it meets the pink fleshy inside skin), it gets very moist and red and irritated all the time. Especially when it's hot, but can happen anytime. It starts to itch badly and I always end up scratching, which just makes it worse. I had gone to the doctor thinking it was a yeast infection about a year and a half ago, the dr said there no internal yeast infection, but an external one and gave me some Nystatin cream that gets rids of the infection and told me to stay very dry, even to use the blowdryer to dry myself all the way. Since then, whenever the area gets irritated, I've just been putting the cream on and it seems to help. My biggest concern is that when it does get red and raw, I sometimes get these little sores at the base of the hair follicles. They go away and I'm fine until it gets irritated again. I was outside in the 100 degree heat for about 4 hours, sweating a lot and I got one of the little owies and for some reason now that I'm married I'm paranoid it could be herpes. Does this sound like it could be herpes? The sore(s) have never started as blisters and don't ooze, it's never anywhere but around the hairline near the top of my outer labia where they meet (where moisture would collect the easiest). I'm just paranoid I don't want to give my husband anything. We've been kissing, making out, giving each other oral sex for years, so I assume I would have given him herpes already if I ever had it. He has no weird sores or anything. I know I should just go to the dr, but I know by the time I get an appt, everything will be fine. I also can't go to a gyno anymore (new insurance is an HMO) so I hate to go to a regular doc about this. Does it sound more like irritation/bacterial/yeast infection of the skin or like herpes?

Thanks!

Hi jj92504, welcome!

If you are still experiencing what your doctor diagnosed as a YI before then that's probably what you have now. However, since you are concerned it would be a good idea to have tests run by your doctor to make sure. There is no way that we can say for sure exactly what your problem is. Thanks for posting. Let us know what your doctor says, ok?

Good luck,
