To begin with, i am a virgin. My boyfriend has fingered me a few times, but 2 nights ago he was a bit rougher and went deeper then he ever has before. there was little pain but i have been bleeding very lightly (less then the first couple days of my period) since, it seems to be getting even lighter. I am pretty sure that he just tore my hymen and that this is perfectly normal, but I am concerned because I thought that if a girl did bleed when her cherry was "popped" it was just a tiny bit, and on that night only. Am I correct in assuming it was just him tearing my hymen or should I be concerned? I know its not my period because it just ended a week ago.

It IS your period (hmm in a few days) although I know of more situations if you have any predictions of becoming preg! I'm sure the doc might be able to suggest something to help. Best of luck.

Hi katieincollege, welcome!

You probably have no need for concern at this point but you should find out what caused the bleeding. Hymens come in a wide range of shapes and sizes from just a trace along the walls of your vagina to a very thick covering of tissue over most of the vaginal opening. If you use tampons with no discomfort you may have a minimal hymen. Even so there may be a part of it (or something else) your boyfriend tore and depending on location and size of the tear it could bleed considerably.

Have you had a recent pelvic exam and a PAP? If you haven't it would be a good idea if you did. That way you can make sure everything is ok and will have a baseline of information about your sexual health before you become sexually active. The doctor who examines you should be able tell if you are likely to have discomfort when penetrated and if so can discuss any corrective measures s/he might think necessary. Having an exam would be a proactive step on your part by assuring your sexual health and an opportunity to discuss any concerns with your doctor before you engage in intercourse, whenever that might be. Thanks for posting. Let us know what you decide and how you're doing, ok?
