Vaginal dryness

I've been to the gyno about this but she doesn't know, so if anyone has had any problems like this, would be great if you could let me know.

About four months ago I had a yeast infection. I treated it with a home method and it cleared up. However, my vaginal discharge has been very different ever since. It's a lot more dry than it used to be. The natural lubricant that usually surrounds the whole vagina also seems to dry up over night and leave small kinda crusty things (yes, not pretty!). From what I have researched, it seems to be smegma (I think that is what it is called for females as well). What I don't understand is why did this start and how can I get rid of it?! Or does anyone have any ideas of something else it might be? I also have a much more frequent sensation to pee :-/...

I got tested about a month ago for STD's and a UTI, and was completely clean for all so I really don't know. This is really quite annoying.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi tinkerbellevi, welcome!

I don't think smegma is what you are seeing. Smegma is composed of normally shed skin cells combined with moisture from your skin and perspiration. I don’t think Smegma forms that fast and isn't usually crusty.

What was the home remedy that you used? Are you on hormonal contraceptives? And, did you change anything in your lifestyle about the time you got very dry, like starting or stopping medicines (including BCPs) and supplements? The progestin in some hormonal contraceptives can dry some women out and a shortage of estrogen can do the same thing.

That is a symptom of an UTI or bladder infection. Perhaps you didn’t completely cure your previous problem.

If I were you I'd get a second medical opinion. It sounds to me as though you might have had a reaction to the home remedy you used or to something else the happened about the same time - like perhaps starting birth control pills, or you have an infection of some sort. What ever it is I think you need medical attention.

I hope you are better soon. Keep in touch and let us know what your doctor says and how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck and hugs,
