Possible effects of urine?

I know this may sound like a strange question, but it really is sincere. Without going into too much detail, I was wondering if anyone here knew whether frequent introduction of urine could have any adverse effects on the vaginal lining? If not, do you know where I could go to find out? TIA for your response.

Hi Fyre, welcome!

I am assuming that it is the patient’s own urine as ordinarily it is almost impossible for a male partner to urinate inside his female partner during/after sexual intercourse. There are at least two scenarios where a woman’s own urine can end up in her vagina. The first is when a fistula (an abnormal passage between two internal structures of the body) occurs. See: http://www.ijri.org/articles/archives/2002-12-4/genitourinary_511.htm. In this case over a prolonged period of time minerals were deposited and stones formed in the vagina. I don’t really know but it appears to me that this patient must not have had regular pelvic exams to ensure that everything was functioning correctly. The other instance http://www.jurology.com/pt/re/juro/fulltext.00005392-200104000-00025.htm;jsessionid=DXEWZVeUy2uzPs7thCYn66EHcdNIUu2sX6D8vq8OZJ7h62EH1Yue!-287926661!-949856145!9001!-1 is where a fistula was unintentionally created during a surgical procedure (in this example during a C-section). If urine is getting into the vagina something is definitely not right and she should see an urologist as soon as she can.
Thanks for posting. If you have more questions we are right here. Let us know what the urologist says, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
