cross posted on herpes board - Could use some input on subject I don't know much about.
My bf and I have used a condom 100% of the time during our relationship. However, I see this guy as possibly "the one" and hoped that one day we would lose the condom. He told me prior to us having sex that he had been told it was nothing to worry about but felt that in order to have true honesty he should tell me that 2 years ago when he had a blood workup done at his check up it came back showing he has immunity to HSV. He has a fairly limited sexual past (also no high risk behavior) and has NEVER had any signs of symptoms. The initial doctor said he may want to follow up on it. he saw another doctor and this doctor said this was absolutely nothing to worry about and he should forget about it.
He also stated that sometimes there is a correlation between the blood results and having had smallpox as a child (he did).
I saw my obgyn last night for my exam and asked him about all this in order to protect myself. My obgyn said that it is possible for him to have it and never show symptoms yet give it to me and I could develop symptoms. (I was tested on a previous bloodwork so know that I have never been exposed to it - no immunity). He was not familiar with the correlation between smallpox and HSV positive results.
any thoughts on this? like i said I don't know much about this, but I do know that I could see a lifetime with this man and as a result know that one day I will want to cross the bridge of no condom...for instance if nothing else when i want to have a child. Has anyone else every heard of the smallpox correlation? How much can I rely on a condom for protection if he is asymptamatic?
thanks for reading all this.
p.s. I am familiar with the differences between HSV 1 and 2 and understand the differences and similarities. This info is easy to find on the web, however, understanding my risk factor does not seem as easy to locate.

Hi,
I answered you on the Herpes, HPV and other STDs board but will copy and paste my reponse here for everyone to read :)
The statistics for asymptomatic transmission are still up in the air.
