I recently had my annual exam and My doctor just called me and said that I have "severly abnormal" cells on my cervix she already tested me for hpv and stds so what else could it be? It's really bothering me and i'd like to havae more information before i go in for further testing with an obgyn-

Hi Small :)

Even though the doctor tested you for HPV, chances are it is HPV that is causing your cervical abnormalities.

Thanks guys I really appreciate your input. I have a colposcopy scheduled with an obgyn so hopefully everything goes well. So from reading your links you provided am I to understand that HPV is actually what causes genital warts? If I have HPV does that mean I already have genital warts, or potentially? Can HPV be transmitted to my male partner? Should I tell him he needs to get checked out then? I'm a bit confused because all this that has been in the media about HPV really does not inform us of the relationship between HPV and Genital Warts?

There are many different kinds of HPV. Some few types cause genital warts and others don't. With further tests you doctor should be able to give you more specifics. At this point I don’t think it’s an absolute that your problem is the result of HPV but a very large percentage of dysplasia cases are caused by it.

thanks for all the information I had my procedure yesterday and Its not as bad as one might think so it went good but the doctor did say that I have severe displaysia and that freezzing techniques or leep procedures will most likley be necessary- which is unnerving especially since i just found out that I'm now pregnant- Which is okay to say that it's not unwanted but is unplanned I'm not sure how my family will react since i'm 22 and unwed- I'm trying to take this all in stride- we'll see. thanks for the input.
