Cervical Bruising

Hello. I am new here, hope someone can answer my question!

I have been surfing the net for any information I can find regarding cervical bruising, its symptoms and causes. I have found next to nothing ... so I thought I would go ahead and post here hoping someone may be able to help!

Is it possible for the cervix to get bruised during sex -- particularly if there is a lot of deep thrusting? I believe this may be my problem although I'm not sure. The last time I had sex with my boyfriend (to be exact -- the day after) I had severe bloating and cramping in my lower abdomen including some soreness/tenderness inside the vagina ... this lasted the entire day and evening. The bloating was so severe that I felt nauseous for a short time. This has happened to me a few times in the past few months (always occuring the day after sex). I am wondering if the bloating may be caused by deep thrusting forcing air up into the uterus???

Has anyone else experienced this and/or these particular symptoms after sex? Could it be that he is thrusting too hard and hitting my cervix to cause bruising?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanxs

Hi Jill,

Thanks so much for your response!

It was interesting that you had advised asking my doctor about this. Indeed, I did schedule an appointment with my gyno after having had these symptoms. You see, I recently had a bladder (UTI) infection. My gyno put me on 7 days of Bactrim antibiotic to clear up the infection. I had just finished taking the prescription, feeling better, then this happened. My gyno had advised a follow-up visit anyhow so I called right away thinking, initially, that these symptoms could be indicating that my bladder infection either was not cleared up, or had returned.

He did a routine urine sample, and to my surprise, found traces of blood in my urine. I was confused by this because my symptoms were not that of a typical UTI (i.e. there was no pain or pressure when urinating, etc.). Of course I told him all of this, advising him that my symptoms only consisted of bloating/cramping in my lower abdomen. I also asked him about the sex and if that could have caused these symptoms. He said it was very unlikely. To make a long story short, he sent out my urine sample for further testing indicating that he was unsure why the antibiotic did not clear up the UTI and that it may be a different problem. I should mention that he did perform a pelvic exam -- he concluded everything was fine.

The results came back negative for any type of infection. In other words, my UTI was cleared up. His nurse called me on the phone with the results and indicated that there was nothing else they could do advising me to see a urologist if my symptoms continued.

By the way, I am on BCPs -- being 41 my gyno put me on a lower form of estrogen pill -- Loestrin 24 FE.

It was interesting that you had mentioned the thin layer of cells on the cervix getting rammed could bring on bleeding. I am wondering if that is why the urine sample they took had blood in it?

It has been a week now after seeing the gynecologist and my symptoms have improved. However, it did take quite a few days for them to diminish -- I can only assume that the sex (deep thrusting/ramming) was the problem. I plan to talk to my boyfriend about all this and insist that he be more gentle from now on. If indeed I still have symptoms after a few weeks, maybe I should consider seeing a urologist.

What do you think?
