Yeast infection?

My hormones have recently decided to go Chernobyl on me, and everyhing is breaking down. I *think* i have a yeast infection, but im not sure - i've never had one before. I'll give you some background. This is going to be major TMI.

I'm 26, and have PCOS which I'm not really being treated for. I haven't had a period in over 2 years, and the last one i DID have was induced with meds. It's nice not having periods and I'm ignoring the fact that it's probably majorly screwing me up for later in life. So lately i've been feeling pretty yuck, for about about 2 weeks. Moody, headaches every day, weak, easily confused, forgetful, tired to the point of utter and complete exhaustion, and a little depressed. I figured maybe i was anemic or something. Then out of NOWHERE i get a period. It started with some cramping and very slight spotting - then i started getting itchy. Pretty bad. No telltale discharge or odor - just itchy and red. So i went and got one of the one dose treatments - instant relief. For a few days. (And i'd like to make note that is was painfully sore in my vagina when i put the ovule in. Made me wince.) Last night I started getting itchy again, but just a tiny annoyance. This morning I woke up - because of the itch, and thought i was going to claw myself to death! lol So i thought i better go take a good look. Things are a little irritated, just some redness - not even inflamed looking - but my clit is completely white. The whole thing, but nothing around it is. Its like a little white bead in there. So i tried to wipe it off, thinking it was cream i'd put on there, but it wont wipe off - and i tried pretty hard. Its not bumpy or anything, just like a white coating. It looks foreign - and that *really* bothers me.

I know thrush can be hard to wipe off - is that what this is? I'm not having any unusal discharge. The period is more cramps than anything, very very light, but maybe more mucusy than I think it should be. I know that the sudden change in hormones could have triggered an infection, but would it be isolated to one spot like that? I'm not sore on the inside anymore, so I dont think its in there. I know i should, but i really would rather not go to the doctor. She's good about giving me something if I call and ask for it - but i am not really sure what I am dealing with here, or what i need. Should I do the over the counter stuff again?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Hey. I was wondering if you could keep us all updated on this. I have yeast problems and just recently I noticed some strange white substance around my clitoral area too! It seems to have subsided since I started putting yeast cream on it (I had some on hand, of course.) So, I'm pretty sure it is yeast. Hope things clear up for you.

Sure thing. Im going to call the doc tomorrow. I'm having some burning and cramping when i pee - so no more time for fun and games. Since this is my first problem down there, i feel embarrassed and grossed out with myself. And yes, i know thats ridiculous. lol Luckily i know its not an std - unless its been lying dormant forever. (I havent been sexually active in about.... 7 months. ANd only with my husband before that.) So we'll see. She can usually get me in pretty quick, so i'll let ya'll know.

Any other ideas or suggestions would still be helpful.

I am a nurse, and my advice would be to make an appointment with your primary care physician soon. There are certain infections that must be treated with antibiotics. Does your partner have any symptoms?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I went to the dr and have an answer. I have to say it was kind of funny, because after i described it (white spot, wont come off, no other symptoms. No itching, burning, irritation. I wouldnt have even known it was there if i hadnt looked) and then she saw it she said "Well what is that?" lol she thought it might just be irritation from the cream i had put on there previously. She really didnt think it was any kind of infection because it hadnt spread anywhere. Im not sexually active so it was nothing like that.

So she swabbed it, turned out to be bacterial. she said it most likely started as a yeast infection, which i treated, so it turned around on me. Its kind of a balancing act down there. But she started me on Flagyl - which will pretty much take care of either.

So there you go!

you need the medication called metronidazole. it is a presciption drug. and for any one with fishy odor problem this medication gets rid of the odor problem too.

Whoa, I have had a few yeast infections in my life. I must say "wow" that sounds like a yeast infection all over. Except for the white part. Afraid to go to the doctor, are you kidding me? I would take off running to his/her office! Especially if you have never had a yeast infection before. More than anything I hate to go tot the doctor for that part of my anatomy, but I would rather go for some stupid little thing like a yeast infection than find out it was something bigger. Good luck & TAKE CARE OF YOU.
