IVF #2 coming up soon and like many of the other ladies that have had a failed cycle, I AM TERRIFIED!!!
A little info on my case:
I have reached out to several RE's in hopes of finding someone that I trust and feel is being honest with me...but not in a rude manner. My DH and I were fortunate enough to find Dr. Madden. He is simply amazing! And has given us hope! We decided to cycle with him in July. His plan is to not have me on Lupron. The last time I cycled my RE had me on Lupron for a VERY long time. He also recommends that I lose weight. When I first saw him I was 175 lbs and I am 5'8. I am presently 169 lbs. He still wants me to lose weight and cut down on the carbs.:^( He tested my insulin levels, b/c my family has diabetes history but they came out fine. I do not have PCOS, but he decided to put me on Metformin. My last cycle I had egg quality issues. He says that he has used Metformin in the past and had great success. If there are any ladies out there who have worked with Metformin I would appreciate any information...how did it affect you? What was your diet like? Did you end up pg?
Thanks for reading all of this. This is a brief synopsis of my situation. Best of luck to you all!:^)

Keesha,
I have been on metformin since Feb. No luck yet. This is what I have learned from my Dr. If you have insulin resistance, your pituritory(sp) gland is screwed up which screws up your hormones. Eventually, there ends up being a testosterone environment in the ovaries, instead of an estrogen environment. Testosterone is not good for egg quality. So my Dr believes if you take care of the insulin resistance with metformin then you will have more estrogen and a better egg quality. Don't know how it effects if you don't have IR.
As far as side effects, I haven't had any but I am on the brand Fortament. My Dr. said that this brand has the least side effects. I was doing OK on my diet for awhile. Wasn't craving fast food and stuff but then I had to take Dex for my last cycle and it screwed me up and then all I craved was crap food.
Good Luck, hoping the Metformin helps you. I couldn't really tell a change in this past cycle since I ovulated early and only got 4 eggs. One egg was the best I have had but of course didn't implant.
