Hi All,

I wanted to know if any of you are in Boston or know about Boston IVF clinics.

I am doing mine in Brigham.

Thanks!

Vicky, 31 - PCOS and need IVF w/PGD

Married (in 2003) to DH, 34

DS - born May 2006, conceived naturally, our little miracle (totally accident, were not even trying at that time and due to PCOS I only found out at the end of first trimester!)

TTC for 2 years:

Clomid 3 times, didn't work

IUI#1 Injectables (gonal-f min dose) - cancelled (2 follicles that were growing, disapeared)

IUI#2 Injectables (gonal-f) - doctor slightly increased medication -> I had too many follicles then.  Had a choice to cancel or to have IVF.  Ended up with conversion into IVF, had 5 embryos on day 3, put in 2 and froze 2.  BFP (1/2010)

There was abnormality with the baby and had M/C with additional problems at 15 weeks.  (4/2010)

Found out that I carry a gene that will cause problems.  50% chance of having the baby with that gene.

New plan is to have IVF w/PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis).  The probe that can identify my specific disease in embryos when used with IVF is ready.  Next step is to get proper testing and go into IVF #2 w/PGD.

It's Boston IVF and I see dr. Alper. I am happy there and their stats are good.

Hi Vicky,

I cycled at MGH Boston my first two times---I had twins in 2007---and then at MGH North Shore in January, and will go again this summer. For North Shore, you are monitored up in Danvers, then go to Boston for retrieval and transfer. MGH has a reputation for being pretty conservative.

I have loved the MGH North Shore office. They are fantastic there---they respond quickly to any questions and are friendly and easy to deal with. I see Dr. Sabatini there whom I absolutely LOVE. She not only was completely non-judgemental (we really didn't want to have twins again) but when I had my m/c in April, she called me back personally and got me back in to talk to her ASAP. I haven't found the same kind of personal touch in Boston.

Did you have specific questions about the clinics? I've heard mixed things about the one in Reading as well as the one in Stoneham. Other than that, I've heard good things. We're lucky here that there are so many good ones!

Feel free to email me through my profile if you want to hear more about MGH.

Vicky,

My good friend lost 2 babies, both at 16 weeks, due to a genetic condition that her and here husband were carriers of (and they didn't know until they had testing done after the losses). She did one cycle at Boston IVF with PGD to screen the embryos. That cycle resulted in twin boys and frozen embryos too!

I've also heard good things about B&W but don't have any personal experience with them. I wish you the best of luck and if things don't work out at B&W, give Boston IVF a try. I am partial to my most recent Boston IVF doctor, Brian Berger. I am eternally grateful to him!!

Hi Vicky,

I did acupuncture for my first 3 cycles, but not for the last successful cycle. I think the difference for me on the successful cycle was the right doctor who had me on the right protocol. My issues were related to my eggs and the poor response I had to the stims. I always produced lots of eggs (15+ all 4 cycles) but until a doc figured out exactly the right protocol for my body I always ended up with just one or 2 decent quality embryos available for transfer. On the last cycle the embryologists had more than a dozen nice looking embryos to choose from. We transferred 2 every cycle, including the last one. Yes I have my hands FULL but every day I wake up and feel gratitude for by twins. They are more than I ever could have dreamed for. I hope that you and everyone who is still trying gets the outcome they long for. Stick with it and good luck, good luck, good luck!!!
