Slow Responders?

Hi Ladies!

We will be doing our 1st round of IVF in late August or Sept. In the meantime, we have a checklist of things to do such as meeting with an IVF counselor, financial advisor, and injectible training. I did two previous cycles with injectibles and we couldn't finish either one. With the first cycle, we had to cancel because I didn't have any follicles that were big enough after 2 weeks (biggest follie was 7mm) and DH had to go out of town on business.  With the second cycle, we were again 2 weeks in and still nothing big enough (again 7mm)...then we had a death in the family and had to go to the funeral in another state. Talk about frustration!!!

Anyway, my doctor said I was a slow responder.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with this?  I started at 75iu of Gonal-f for a few days, gradually working up to 225iu for the last three days. I am now with a new RE, btw.  I noticed on my IVF schedule that we start out with Lupron.  My old RE didn't have me do this at all, just had me on Gonal-f.  Will doing Lupron first make a difference in how I respond? I'm getting nervous that I'm not going to produce any eggs at all!!

TIA!

micro lupron supresses ovulation giving your follicles time to grow and mature.

Starting you on only 75ius probably contributed to your failure to respond.

IUI is different than IVF because the only way REs can control how many potential embryos is by limiting the # of eggs you produce. One way they do this is through conservative stim doses.

With IVF they can control how many embryos are transferred so the sky is the limit with egg production. Your new RE will likely be much more aggressive with your stim dose and hopefully you'll respond much better.

Don't be afraid to voice your concern and share your previous non-response to stims. Ask how lupron might affect your response to stims. An antagon cycle (no suppression) might be a better option for you.

Good luck!

You should talk to Lara (catspjs), I know she posts on the pg after TTC board. Your response reminds me of hers. She had failed cycles, a history of slow response, and on her last cycle she had very slow response. But instead of cancelling her the doc kept stimming her, for 18 days! She is in her third trimester now.

You can see her story here

I have totally normal day 3 labs and I started on 225iu, which had to be reduced again and again due to high response til finally it was 100iu and finally had to be cut out completely the last few days.I had 27 eggs retrieved. 23 mature.

I agree with Lori, that 75 iu of gonal-f is nothing! For my stim, I did no Lupron because my dr. was worried it would over suppress me. For my whole stim, I did 225iu gonal-f in the morning, and 150 Menopur (which is equal parts FSH and LH) in the evening. I started out slowly, but ended up with about 8 mature eggs at the time of retrieval.

Make sure your new RE has your records from the old one.

Good luck!

i didn't have a problem with responding for IUIs but never had success, but our first round of IVF, I stimmed for a long time and had a poor response - so a slow and low responder.
