The whole media swarm over VA Tech has hit home for me, and I'm at a point of saturation. I can't listen anymore without feeling compelled to do something beyond sending my best thoughts and prayers to them. It's hard enough to lose a loved one much less to violent crime. The pain is compounded when it's the center of media attention... those grieving don't get moments of reprieve to rest their weary souls.
If you get a chance, and you are compelled, please contact an organization in that area (churches, Red Cross, counseling centers) and ask how you can help. The effects of what has happened have only just begun.
I will be having everyone in my layspeaking class send a card to the Wesley Foundation on campus. I will also be sending along a care package so that even if we can't be there in person we can share communion in spirit.
For all of us who are feeling grief at this time for our myriad of reasons, when we are able to help another in that process we share our burden and therefore lighten it.
God Bless - Kelly

If you have an adress to send cards to, please pass that information along to the rest of us. I too think we should be able to do more. When you lose a child from a tragic event like this one, it seems like the media keeps it going. Their is no rest for the family.
When I lost my son from a drowning, after that the news wanted to use this tragedy to promote water safety in the month of June. Which was nice of them to remember my son and the loss that we had went thru. But there is a time to let the dead die.And the families to have peace. I pray for all the parents who are just starting their journey down that long road of grief without their child, this is a road that no parent should have to ever go down. My prayers are with each and everyone of these people who have been touched by this tragic event. May God's healing begin.Lord help those in pain, touch them now with your loving spirit.

Please contact me through the link to my e-mail to get information about this organization.
Any organization should have a listing of sites available on the web. This one happens to be affliated with the United Methodist Church, of which I am a candidate for ministry. I know they opened up the use of their landlines when cell phone lines became jammed so people could contact their loved ones and let them know they were okay.

If there is an address to where we can send cards of condolences could you be so kind and share it with us. You are a very thoughtful and compassionate lady and God Bless you for your suggestions.
Love, Miriam
Permission was granted by iVillage for me to post the address of this organization under this extreme circumstance. Please note that there are many organizations out in that area offering a variety of services, and this is only one of them. There is a chapel on campus I believe, and I know that there are ties to a number if churches in that area. Please respond to any organization to which the Spirit seems to move you. God uses us all in different ways for different needs. :)
God's blessings to you all!

Thanks so much for this information. I live in Canada, and so I wasn't sure where we can all send these cards to, now that you supplied us with this address we will send out all of our condolences.
I know that no matter where we are all living, this horrific act touched everyone. It seems to me that years ago, as parents, we all felt so content knowing that our children were in school and they were safe there, now......our children are not even safe in schools. How sad!!
Thanks again for that info,
Love Miriam
At Virginia Tech or in the Blacksburg community there are representatives of the major religions.
