My dear sweet friends,

My precious Dad passed away peacefully Saturday. I want to take this chance to thank everyone who has been so supportive and encourging. He fought hard and proved the dr's wrong that it wouldn't be 6 months, but 7. He didn't suffer and passed on knowing how much he was loved.

I hurt, I hurt so bad. It is like a big empty hole and the house is just so quite. There is no more routine, no more getting him up, no more getting him fed, no more giving medicine, no more getting him ready for bed....because he is gone, gone to a better place.

Some time ago I wrote about my dad and his having to wait all his life, he no longer has to wait, the wait is over. He is at peace and with my mom whom he has missed so very much.

I will be ok, it will get better, but there are bumps in the road that I know will catch me by surprise and thats ok. My Mom and Dad taught me well. In this last year my Dad has been with us he has taught me patience and being calm and for that I thank him. I am proud we were able to do all we could for him. He made it easy just by being Dad.

Dad, I miss you, I love you, I will always be Daddy's girl, your little girl and you will always be my Dad.

Again, thank you everyone. I will still be around...you can't get rid of me that easy!!lol

Love to all
Gail

Dear Gail,

My condolences.
I am new to Ivillage and came here as my dad fights kidney cancer and my dog has cancer too.
What a beautiful message about your father. From what you wrote I can tell that he was a stellar parent, what a legacy he left. Loving, strong daughters like you are no accident. May God bless you during this difficult time.

Thank you so much for your sweet caring words. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad and your dog. Stay close to your sweet dad and just let him know everyday what he means to you. I don't mean by saying it, but just doing little things for him means alot. I know it did to my dad.

Please keep us up on how your dad and puppy are doing.

Love ya

The loving way you speak of your Dad only goes to show the exceptional person you are having had a wonderful and caring Dad, not everyone is so blessed. How sweet of you to respond while grieving.

Excellent advice. My dad lives abroad and at first I panicked and almost bankrupted us by flying home frequently. Now I emaill silly jokes, I call frequently with silly songs and stupid jokes and I have gotten in the strange habit of sending him funky hats and really wild socks in weekly care packages. He gets a kick out of them and I feel like I am doing someting. Most of all I love him as fiercely as possible. Like you I am blessed by a great dad. I now I will be desolate when he leaves but I am hoping that the memories of our love wil bring me solace and I hope the same for you.
