Lower abdomen (ovarian?) pain!

I was hit by a car in 1997 and one of the x-rays showed that I had a 3cm cyst on my left ovary, though it was never mentioned to me or my family (my mom saw my medical papers because she helped work on my lawsuit). I'd never had any problems so we all assumed it went away. In 1999 I began to have what I referred to as "grasshopper abdomen" pains, where it felt as though a grasshopper was hopping around along my lower abdomen. I couldn't even stand up during those pains and eventually they went away on their own, too. My most recent period ended on the 16th this month, and last night my boyfriend and I were having sex when I began having a sharp pain in the lower right part of my abdomen. I've felt discomfort there before so I figured it would go away, yet I woke up today with the pain still there. At this moment I'm still in pain, and it seems to increase with urination. I'm not sure if this is at all connected to anything I mentioned above but I thought I'd mention them. I see my gynocologist on Friday to discuss switching my birth control (for convenience reasons) so I'll mention it then but I was hoping someone might have some idea what could be going on in the meantime.

Welcome!

It's really hard to say what could be causing your pain. It could be a cyst. Cysts are rather common and typically do go away on there own. Given your history, it's probably a good idea to have an ultrasound done to check it out. Talk it over with your doctor.

Are you on hormonal birth control? You could be experiencing ovulation pain. It's called Mittelschmertz. But, if it doesn't happen every month, then that's unlikely.

It's just something you'll have to talk over with your doctor. There's many things that could be casuing your pain. Hopefully they figure it out soon!

Good luck!

Kristin
