Periods Still Irregular Despite the Pill

I have never had regular periods...they started when I was 10, and now 13 years later they are still all over the place. Sometimes I'll have a 3 day period, then a 5 day period 2 weeks later, then nothing for several months (I've gone as long as 19 months without a period).
When I was 14 my doc put me on the pill to try to regulate things, but to no avail. I'll still get a period on perhaps week 2 of the pill, or skip a few months. I've tried almost every brand out there in my 9 years with the pill, and none are any better or worse. I have also gone without the pill for usually 3 or 4 months every 1 1/2 - 2 years to see if anything has changed, but no luck. My last period was 7 days of actual menstruation which started in the 1st week of my pills, then I spotted for 4 weeks after (I have NEVER spotted)

My greatest concern is that I am now getting married and we would like to have a baby right away. How can I possibly conceive when my system is like this, and why wouldn't the pill make it regular?

I wish I could give you an answer as to why the pill has not helped you. Have you been tested for hormonal imbalances? Such as your thyroid, estrogen and progesterone levels?
As far as trying to concieve, have you tried to chart your fertility signs? This includes taking your temperature every morning before getting out of bed, checking your cervical fluid and even your cervical position. All of these things should help you pin-point when you ovulate. I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It's very easy to understand and very helpful in understanding our bodies. If all else fails, you might need to see a fertility specialist.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
