I am 29, never had kids, just started BC two months ago, and have only had one partner....I don't know if that is important or not.

About 5 years ago I started to notice that with the start of my period comes the need to have a bowel movement. I don't know how to describe it other than an urge feeling and pressure that is unlike any other time of the month...but not painful. Once I have a BM (no blood in it or direaha, just normal) my cramps get worse, but nothing that I can't handle with the help of Midol. The BM itself is not painful.

Just wondering if this happens to anyone else or should it be something that I have looked into.

Once again, sorry for being so detailed and gross!

Thanks for your help in advance.

Don't apologize...you never know if you don't ask, right? :-)

Its very normal, as long as its a normal BM like you said - no blood, etc. Your reproductive organs and intestines pretty well sit on top of each other, so its only natural that they may have some affect on each other too. When I first got my period years ago, I used to get terrible cramps and diarrhea on the first day - my doc said that your intestines often feel the effects of the progestins, and that its normal to have some GI changes parallel your hormonal changes. Fortunately bcp's took care of my cramps, but I still occasionally have BM's going along with the onset of my period.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're having a lot of discomfort or diarrhea/constipation.

Take care!

Don't apologize! If you can't be detailed here, where can you be?

I second what this poster said. When I was younger, my cramps were more severe, but even now at 27 I still have more frequent BM and cramping with the onset of my period, then during the rest of the month. I always figured it was normal.

I hope this helps. The only thing that helped me were three Advil. Midol never did it for me!

Hello there Rhonda...

I am 25 3/4, don't have children, was on BC for 2 years and went off of it a year b/f I got married, and I've only had one partner as well..

Let me just say that about 6 years ago, I started to notice that I would not really have a BM unless it was right when I started my cycle, during and the day my cycle ended.. My cramps are/were the same way...

I have asked my OB about this and he has said that it is just like that with some people.

Hope that makes you feel a little better, that you aren't alone in this!!

Let me know if you need to talk or anything..

*HUGS*
